Now that is an interesting and broad question. Do you mean specific
types of music (ie rap, classical, etc.) or do you mean the ppreciation of music as an opportunity to increase ethical behavior... I will jot some basic thoughts on the subject, and then would appreciate your specific questions to comment upon.
Music has always been a rather powerful tool for culture to teach values, to inspire, and to focus emotions. Witness the parade marches to inspire patriotism, the high-drama and catharsis of certain operas of classical music, the celebration of wedding music, the somberness of funeral music, etc.
Now, if you mean does pop music influence ethical and moral behavior - probably... it always has. Historically, we could find numerous examples in which pop music "spoke" to the youth culture of the time (be it Jazz "music of the Devil," Swing, BeBop, Rock, Rap, etc.). The general cultural trends that young people have in their minds are often expressed through popular music (not just for economic reasons).....Sometimes the words, the manner of
expression, and whatnot, fuel the fire of revolt, fuel the desire for change, and can often become rallying points for many.
